Homemade pizza sauce is so easy and makes Friday night pizza a little special! Made from scratch with just a couple ingredients, it’s amazing!
I get asked for this recipe a couple times a week so I figured I’d just make a post and make life easier on myself!
Friday night is pizza night at our house. It has been that way since my children were small. We’ve had all forms of pizza night. There has been scratch made pizza, pickup and delivery. I’ve bought crust and made it. We’ve had low-carb cauliflower crust, deep dish and now our favorite is sourdough! A yummy, chewy sourdough pizza crust (recipe coming next week) and this homemade pizza sauce is the perfect end to a busy week!
The best thing about this pizza sauce is that it’s easy to customize to suit your family’s tastes. It’s amazing on it’s own but it’s easy to jazz up as you like. If you’re completely avoiding sweeteners, you can leave out the honey. If you like spicy, it’s easy to add a pinch of hot pepper flakes. Make it exactly the way you like it or eat it the way it is. It’s so good, I could eat it with a spoon. Do your thing! It’s your pizza night.
HOW TO MAKE MY FAVORITE HOMEMADE PIZZA SAUCE
Making this sauce is going to be the easiest thing you whip together all week. I promise! All you need is a can of tomato purée, a sweetener of your choice and a few basic spices that I’m sure every mama has in her spice cabinet. That’s it! If you know how to open a can and read a couple measuring spoons, you can make this homemade sauce.
You will need:
- (1) 28 ounce can tomato purée
- 3 Tablespoons sweetener (I use honey)
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/8 teaspoon basil
- 3/4 teaspoon oregano
- 3/8 teaspoon thyme
- 3/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Add all your ingredients to a medium size pot and simmer 20-30 minutes. I don’t even let my simmer get too high because I use raw honey. You just want to give it a little heat so everything can meld together. I start my sauce before I start prepping any other ingredients so it’s ready to go when I need it.
See…I told ya it was easy!
IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY
By now, you probably know that I’m all about healthy, frugal meals. This pizza sauce will save you a few pennies each time you make it too! The pre-made jarred stuff in the grocery stores are full of ingredients I don’t want my family to eat. If I go for the organic sauce, it’s at least double the price. I try to stock up on the organic tomato puree when it is on sale and this saves me even more. I’ll buy enough to last us a few months until the next sale. This builds my stockpile and saves us money. I buy our organic spices in bulk. BTW, the pic below is a pound of organic thyme. It almost fills a half gallon mason jar. I know many mamas are trying to save on their grocery bill while feeding their family nutritious food. Saving little bits here and there can add up to big savings overall.
I wanna know…do you have a weekly pizza night? Do you do homemade, delivery or something in between? If you try this sauce, make sure you let me know how it goes. Tag me @5to9mom on Instagram if you post it. I love it when mamas share the love!
